Do we need to go for counselling before divorce?
For a contested divorce, the matter must usually first be referred to a marriage tribunal at the National Registration Department (JPN). This is not required for a joint petition. How the marriage tribunal works.
Who gets custody of young children?
The child’s welfare is the main consideration. There is a presumption that a child under seven is better with the mother, but it can be displaced by the facts. More on custody.
